Leader Advice: On the ground

I received some advice from one banking group leader:
"Be on the ground and you will understand better everything. Try to have and test the most experiences you can."

To many backgrounds skills or competencies?

To many?

Is a new trend actually.
When the job market shows some problems, we should replace the unemployment times with formation.
When we apply for some job, firstly we should think: Am I the best one for it?

Why should you have MBA or Master in business, if you never had chance to work?

Negociation - 12 points

1 - Be prepared from the strongest questions
Be focused on "interests, options, alternatives, criteria, commitment, communication and relationship" (Roger Fisher and William Ury from teachers Harvard University)

2 - Be proactive
Send a clear, simple and positive message.

3 - Control your anxiousness
Be confident and save about yourself. Be very well prepared, that's helps a lot.

4 - Choose the right place
If you want to leave at the middle of the negotiation, could be great if you are not at your office!
The place should have the right environment and support for your communication

5 - Your image. Be careful.
First impression counts a lot.

6 - Play harder our softer
You should play according to the flow of the negotiation.

7 - Do not care about the body language
Be just focus on your strong messages.

8 - Recognize your profile
Is good to identity your profile and role through the negotiation.

9 - Ethics on the table
Win-win model only can work with ethics.

10 - Manage your emotions
As in Japan, you should control your emotion since your childhood.
Lead your emotions is part of a successful negotiation.

11 - Negotiate with the person, not the nationality
When you think that you will negotiate with Chinese people, you have diverse cultures there.
Since Hong Kong until the North of China. Is like "negotiate with a European".
So be careful about generalizations.

12 - Do not pretend
Bluff kill any negotiator.
Never pretend that you have power of something that you do not have.

3 types of people in business world

"There are only three types of people in the business world, as follows:

TYPE NUMBER ONE:
who lets you know from the outset ( either through his words, his actions, or both ) that he`s out to get your chips.
He then follows through by attempting to do just that.

TYPE NUMBER TWO:
who goes to great lengths to assure you that he would never dream of pilfering your chips, often trying to throw you off guard by assuring you that he really wants to see you "get everything that`s coming to you."
Then, like Type Number One ( and without hesitation ) he goes about trying to grab your chips anyway.

TYPE NUMBER THREE:
who, like Type Number Two, assures you that he`s not interested in your chips.
Unlike Type Number Two, however, he sincerely means what he says.
But that`s where the difference ends.
Due to any one of a number of reasons ( ranging from his own bungling to his amoral standards for rationalizing what`s right and wrong ) he, like Types Number One and Two, still ends up trying to grab your chips.
Which means that his supposed good intentions are really irrelevant to the final outcome.

No impossibilities - Infinity of choices

To: The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning

A friend recently shared with me a video of an incredible performance
of a group of 5th, 6th, and 7th Graders, the Kings Firecrackers, from
Ohio. They are providng the half time entertainment for an Army Navy
basketball game. This short story (almost eight minutes) is a must
see, not only for the unbelievable performance, but most importantly
for the learnings it gives us about the boundless possibilities within
each of us, and how one person (the same 'each of us') can change
another person's life. It also suggests the question of legacy in
life - our own, and what we have given or will give to others.

As you view the video, stand in the shoes of one of the students.
Feel the joy, exuberance and self-value they are experiencing knowing
that they have excelled to a level of performance which they never
believed possible, but which they found in themselves and in each
other. Stand in the shoes of the coach on the side-line. Think of
what he is feeling as the team puts on their extraordinary
performance. He helped each of them find the greatness and
possibilities in themselves that they never knew existed. He was
their to help them join as a team and work as one - in perfect harmony
and synchronization - and have an experience that will last a lifetime
and influence their lives forever.

http://soonereyo.blip.tv/#1763366

What legacy will you leave? What incredible possibilities and dreams
are yet undiscovered within you? What magnificent joy is yet to be
found that you too will dance with excitement and enthusiasm on
finding them? And in your other role as a servant leader to others -
your family, your business, your friends or those people who
unexpectly, yet intentionally, are put into your life - whom will you
help to find their own special greatness and possibilities?

Deepak Chopra writes: "You and I are essentially infinite
choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field
of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices."
May you choose wisely and well.

Remember the joy on the students' faces - for they have found that in
dreams there are no impossibilities.
May your week and life be filled with amazing dreams - your own and the ones that you will help others
create and see.

Have a beautiful day and GREAT week!!!

Sucess & Happiness

To: The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning

In Umesh Ramakrishnan's book, There's No Elevator to the Top, he
speaks to leaders about taking less-traveled roads to enhance the
richness and success of their professional career journey.

He cites the story of John Kealey, of iDirect, about taking these roads into
unknown territory.

Ramakrishnan writes:
'He used a climbing analogy to describe business careers.
In the early twentieth century, a career trajectory was like hiking up a
mountain.
You saw the summit and worked your way up, with your eye on
the top the entire time.
You knew where you were going. '
Now, we're rock climbing,' Kealey said, 'We're just kind of working our way up
the side, not quite sure where we're going or where that next turn is.
But if you're smart and aggressive and opportunistic you find your
way to the top.'

While it may not seem to be the fastest way, the most intelligent path between two point may not be a straight line.
Remember, there's no elevator to the top."

While Kealey's words are presented in a business context, they
provide us with a wonderful metaphor for creating our own life's
journey.

If we remain on the same straight-and-narrow path, assuredly
we will achieve our life's goal - in our achievements and
accomplishments and in our personal growth and development.
The road less-traveled, however, can provide a rich alternative - one that will
give us gifts more beautiful: ones that will excite us, kindle our
passion through its challenges, expand our boundaries to see and
experience new possibilities, and in the process broaden and deepen
our understanding of the world and people around us.
All these will enable us to discover the great treasures that lie within us.

Albert Schweitzer wrote: "Success is not the key to happiness.
Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

As this week begins and you put your hand in place on the first rock on your climbing journey, think of the incredible opportunities that lie ahead.

Where will you other hand come to rest?
What new direction and new possibilities will it find?
Capture and relish the joy of this incredible journey that we can and
will choose to fill with happiness on your own road less-traveled.
